A
GREAT Gift for the Entire Family!
We transfer your aging 8mm, Super-8 &
16mm
Film to
Blu-ray or DVD Preserving a Lifetime of Memories!
1920x1080 Initial Scan Quality
for ALL Personal Film Orders
AMAZING 1920x1080 Initial Scan
Quality plus Color Correction!
Unlike modern VHS or Camcorder videos, your 8mm, Super-8 and 16mm
reel-to-reel movie films are a
series of tiny pictures just like their larger cousins shown at the
movie theatres. If these pictures are scanned one-at-a-time, the
video quality can exceed many forms of modern video! Films from
the 1950's can actually look much, much better than camcorder
tapes from the 1980's and 1990's!
Our commercial high definition frame-scanning
systems
capture each small "picture" from your film as a 1920x1080 JPG
before converting the images into smooth motion video.
Therefore, our initial scan quality is 6X the image quality of retail
store "telecine" or "frame-by-frame" transfers. In additional to better image
quality, we provide enhanced color quality. Our
commercial systems provide
superior control over color balance during the initial frame-scanning.
We also rewind & re-transfer scenes that benefit from better exposure or
color settings.
We also include
post-capture color editing with every Blu-ray or DVD order.
Blu-ray and DVD pricing includes one hour of post-capture color editing
labor per hour of film. We
make those wedding dresses white again! We help films that have
turned green or red look their best!
Slow Frame-Scanning & Attention to Detail!
The same system that is used
to transfer films for a broadcast-quality documentary is used for your
personal family films.
We are also perfectionists and sometimes transfer reels two or
three times to achieve acceptable results - sometimes using different
systems that have been modified to handle certain types of problems
associated with aging films.
We do ask that you allow us extra working time if your films have
certain flaws or color problems. We have a vast array of
techniques at our disposal, but some of them require extra working time.
Our
Film to DVD Transfer Method, Step-by-Step:
1. All Films Are
Thoroughly Cleaned
using a
professional film cleaning product recommended by Kodak. You receive
our pro cleaning service where we repeat the entire cleaning process at
least 10X...
2. Your Films Are Transferred
Initially at 1920x1080 using
the very latest 2011 studio-quality transfer systems. These
advanced systems are superior to the simple machines used by bulk
transfer services and photo stores.
3. A Real
Person Manually Adjusts the Scan Settings
throughout the entire transfer to obtain the proper exposure,
brightness, contrast & color correction levels. Although we can
set this to “automatic”, we prefer the quality obtained from personal
monitoring. We also stop, rewind, adjust our settings &
re-transfer sections that are particularly difficult. Due to the
extra care at this important stage, we have become one of the most
sought-after transfer services available.
4. We
Professionally Edit Your Video
utilizing one of our multi-processor computer workstations.
We remove totally black or white areas and further color correct areas
that have turned green or red from age. The final results look
better than the original projected film! Note that we cannot add
color to films that have turned brown or to those that have lost most of
their color, but we can enhance the capture video to bring-out the best
from even the most damaged film sections.
5. We Author Your
“Master” Disc
complete
with a Scene Selection Menu showing picture links to each reel's chapter. If
you provide a list of reel titles on a typed print-out, we will also add
precise chapter titles in the DVD menu. (Number the page to match your
reel order, then list the titles next to each reel's number. No
hand-writing please - we want your order to be correct!) Remember, like store-purchased
DVDs, our DVDs are standard definition video. If you want a high
definition version, you will need to order the Blu-ray version.
The Blu-ray version will not play in a DVD player or computer that does
not have a Blu-ray player. Please order the 1920x1080 HD
Motion-JPEG video if you want a high quality video file to play back on
computers or media centers.
6. Custom Color Labels are Designed
using some of the original JPG scans. We print our disc
labels directly to the surface of your disc and include an
attractive DVD case with matching cover. We then PROFESSIONALLY
LAMINATE your disc! The
glossy laminate makes the color images printed to the surface of our
DVDs water and fingerprint resistant.
7. Your Films and New discs Are Carefully Packed & Shipped
using DELIVERY CONFIRMATION. This method provides tracking info
for the safety of your films. We value your memories from start to
finish!
8. We
Stand by Our Service - One Year Warranty for Blu-rays & DVDs
We will fix any obvious mistakes if you let us know within 30 days of
receiving your order back. After 30 days we cannot make changes to
your order. Our Motion JPEG files come with a 30 day warranty.
The files are too large to save for more than 30 days. However, our playable DVDs
and playable Blu-rays include a One Year
Warranty. As long as you ship-back the original, we will make a
new copy from our archives and send it to you.
Advanced
Options for DIY Customers - 1920x1080p Motion-JPEG Video
We use a 12-drive RAID to handle the HD video output
coming from our frame-scanning systems.
(Our
1920x1080p Motion-JPEG source video is 150X the data rate of the DVD
"VOB" video files provided by retail store transfers).
There is simply no way to achieve
our frame-scanning quality by taking your films to a local retail store
or building some type of DIY system from an old projector.
However, we realize that many customers do have the ability to edit
their own video using modern home computers.
Therefore you can also order the unedited high definition 1080P
M-JPEG capture files. Motion-JPEG is literally a bunch of
1920x1080 JPGs saved into a 1080p video stream. The video plays at
the correct speed and is compatible with modern home video editing
software.
It is also much less compressed than Blu-ray video,
making it the best quality available for customers who wish to edit
their own HD quality videos.
Please email us
for 1080P M-JPEG pricing. Our high quality M-JPEG
files do not contain post-capture color correction and require about 2GB of space per 50' of film. You must provide
a freshly formatted USB, eSATA or bare SATA drive along with your films
reels to hold the files - they are too large to send on multiple data
DVD-R discs...
